Baby Hat

One round-trip drive to Ann Arbor, with Mr. Flossie doing most of the driving, et voila: a gift for expectant friends T. and R. I used the Umbilical Cord Hat pattern from Stitch 'n Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook. I love that book. It's easy for beginners to follow and enjoyable to read.

I don't know if I could have learned to knit just from Stitch 'n Bitch's line drawings, but that plus a six-week class at the yarn store, plus the videos at knittinghelp.com, have gotten me to the point of being comfortable with scarves and hats and itching to branch out into the world of mittens and socks.

Hi, Flossie!
Thanks for your comment to Marc's entry on our site. Don't fear having kids - just keep a sharp lookout for falling equality, and fight against it. Kids are great!

Are you connected with Ann Arbor? It's my hometown! And since you are a knitting fan, you'd probably like my sister's passion as much as equally shared parenting - check out www.knitche.com - my sister's store in the Chicago suburbs.

Cheers!

Hi Amy! I just figured out how to get notified when comments are posted, so I can be quicker on the uptake in responding.

I am not in Ann Arbor but have been there and found it lovely. I'm in another college town...further west...OK, Iowa City. I'm still trying to figure out this whole anonymity thing. There's no real point to keeping my identity secret, except that I like the name "Flossie" and wish it were my real name.

Regarding equally shared parenting, I just heard about a guy who applied for a job where I work--but wanted the job to be part-time so he could take care of his son--he didn't get our job, but later got snapped up by another university. Good for him.
